Negative Man
Real Name: Larry Trainor
Search for 'Negative Man' on Amazon

He is protected by the radiation he gives off by the Negative Energy Being, which can fly and had an unknown level of physical strength and durability; however, he will die if kept from the being for a long time, unless the being makes a full separation, as it did when it united with Valentina Vostok.

The Negative Energy Being can remain outside Trainor's body for approximately one minute, although the exact safe timing appears to be affected by other factors. The Being tries to get back into the body within that time, because Trainor's vital signs go down and will likely die if he goes much beyond that period of time.

Trainor loses consciousness when the Being is at work, and his body is left entirely vulnerable to an opponent.

Larry Trainor was a test pilot who crash landed near a nuclear experiment and was saved by a spirit made of negative energy that he now houses inside his body. He must wear specially-treated bandages to prevent others from being exposed to the radiation he gives off and from the being protects him.

He attempted to romance Rita Farr, and seemed to get closer than Cliff, but Steve Dayton got between them and she married him.

Larry was reportedly killed by an explosion attempting to save a remote fishing village, but was later found in a coma. He still needed to wear the treated bandages, even with the spirit now residing in Valentina Vostok. He missed being Negative Man and tried to trick the spirit into entering him instead. When he did this, he and Val got into a fistfight, and she decked him, but he was also able to go without the bandages for once. During the invasion, he tried to put his skills as a pilot to work for the Doom Patrol, but the hangar collapsed at about the point the Negative Spirit broke free from Val, but did not yet enter him.

Trainor was hospitalized at the time of the explosion of the gene bomb, where he developed a crush on his doctor, Eleanor Poole. The Negative Spirit merged the two of them with itself and assumed the name Rebis, an alchemical marriage. This androgynous form gained the ability to fly even while in bodily form.
