Destrii is notable for being, as of early 2007, the only multi-story character created exclusively for Doctor Who Magazine to appear in comics not produced by Marvel or Panini. In late 2006, she made an appearance in the BBC's Doctor Who Adventures.

Another way of looking at this: Destrii is the only comics-only companion to appear both in classic-era and Russell T. Davies-era Doctor Who comics.

Physical appearance:
Destrii appeared in three different forms during her stories with the Eighth Doctor. Her native form is the one pictured at top right. She is naturally amphibious. For an extended period of time, she appeared to be Izzy, because they had actually swapped bodies. But in her final appearance in Doctor Who Magazine, she looked as she does at bottom right. In this case, her appearance changed not because of a body swap, but because of an imaging device she wore around her neck. This device was one she "borrowed" from a nurse that had been attending to her while in hospital.

All this physical change means readers have to follow closely in stories to figure out who Destrii actually is in the current installment.

Companion status:
Despite her relatively frequent appearance in the Eighth Doctor's era, she was only officially a companion for the final story of the Eighth Doctor's tenure, "The Flood!". Even then, she was "on probation" with the Doctor. Much of her existence in the body of Doctor Who comics had depicted her as an ambiguously villainous character. However, by the end of "The Flood!" it's fairly clear she'd earned her stripes, as it were. And the implication, at least in the original telling of the story, was that she travelled with the Eighth Doctor for an indefinite length of time thereafter.
