The Piano Player could generate rows of piano keys that he could use to make music. He often sang along with the music, much to the annoyance of others around him. It was not revealed whether his powers were mystical in nature, or the result of a genetic mutation.

While Doctor Strange was in the afterlife searching for heroes to help battle the Pitiful One, the Phantom Rider rode off and returned moments later with the Piano Player, a hero who agreed to help with his tagline of "Don't shoot me! Don't shoot me!" He quickly whipped up a row of piano keys from virtually nowhere and asked if anyone had any requests. He soon accompanied the other heroes to the elevator to Hell where they were attacked by Kraven and Mysterio. The Piano Player immediately began playing "Ebony and Ivory" until the Phantom Rider's wild horse kicked him right in the face.

After U-Go Girl and the Dead Sisters saved Doctor Strange's group, the Piano Player came to. While Ant-Man frantically searched the carpet for carpet bugs, the Piano Player entertained himself by fiddling with some keys. He later accompanied the heroes to a pit that led into deep Hell where Dead Girl fell and Strange followed after her.

The Piano Player followed the other heroes down into the pit to check on Dead Girl and Doctor Strange's condition. When the Phantom Rider left to ride off into the sunset, the Piano Player exclaimed that it said a lot for his indomitable spirit that he could find happiness in Hell. The Dead Sisters soon left as well and when the Piano Player asked if anyone had any requests for a valedictorian tune to mark their exit, both Ant-Man and Dead Girl told him to shut up. Once the heroes arrived at the Pitiful One's base at the Hotel Self Loathing, the Piano Player and Ant-Man got into an argument regarding the state of Ant-Man's mind. Ant-Man responded by enlarging to human size and punching the Piano Player in the face. The Piano Player angrily warned that Ant-Man should not have hit him and just as he was preparing to continue the argument, he was resurrected by the powers that be.
