Little Lulu was created by Marjorie Henderson (later, Marjorie Henderson Buell). She initially appeared in a one-panel gag in the 23 February 1935 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. She later became both a regular newspaper comic strip feature and the mascot of several companies' advertising campaigns in the 1940s.

In comic books she is most linked to the creator John Stanley, who popularized her via a series of appearances in Four Color as well as her own subsequent solo series.
