The original Blue Beetle's girlfriend. A reporter who, like Lois Lane, had limited abilities to discern that Garrett and the Blue Beetle were one and the same.
She is also shown, like Lois, to be capable of adventuring without her boyfriend. She has a kind of partnership with Mike Mannigan, Garrett's cop partner, and they have some adventures without the Blue Beetle in the mid-40s.
First appearance is a matter of some debate. Blue Beetle #4 (September-October 1940) is definitely her first appearance in that book. But she also appears in the October 1940 issue of Mystery Men Comics (#15).
So the question is, which hit the newsstands first? Truth is, I don't know. But as I don't have a copy of either handy, and Blue Beetle #4 doesn't actually have a date on the cover, I'm going with Mystery Men #15. If the interior of the Blue Beetle issue actually gives a publication date of "September/October", I'd tend to go with that one, though.
If anyone out there actually knows the true answer to this question, and can verify it with fact from the actual comic book, please feel free to change the first appearance.. Big 3 (1940)
