Powers: Flight, super-strength and the ability to create lightning.
Bio: After briefly dabbling with the Fox take on the character in 1955, Charlton gave a new version of the character a try from 1964-1966.Though it retained the super-hero and secret identity names of the original, it was an altogether different Blue Beetle. This Garrett was an archaeologist who found an ancient scarab (or beetle--get it?) on a dig in Egypt. Through the will of the ancients, this amulet gave him powers beyond those of mortal men. DC would eventually tie this version of the character with Blue Beetles III and IV, by showing us that Ted Kord was with him when he died and the scarab he discovered survived him.
Notes: Created by Joe Gill and Tony Tallarico. Sadly this version of the character didn't appear to "take" with readers, and so was replaced with the third version of the character, which is the one that (first) became a part of the DC universe.
