Powers: Was in charge of Krypton's space program until it was canceled after the destruction of Wegthor. He then set out to seize power by creating his own army of artificial men, all doubles of himself. Not the best of scientists, Zod produced only imperfect doubles of himself. They were destroyed and Zod was sent to the Phantom Zone.
Bio: Head of Krypton's space program. Director of the facilities in Kryptonopolis. He hired Jor-El straight out of school, causing the young Jor to move from his native Kandor (at the time, capital city of Krypton) to the slightly smaller second-city. The irony of this hiring decision was one of the details lost in post-Crisis Kryptonian history. He was sentenced to a 40-year term in the Phantom Zone for attempting to overthrow the government.
Notes: Typically, this character is referred to more simply as General Zod. This character's first name is often lost on modern readers, perhaps largely because it was never included in the films, Superman and Superman II, and because it has not carried over to the post-Crisis Earth.
