Stephen learned much from the doctor, but he wanted to be free. In exchange for his freedom, he traveled to the Far East to retrieve an herb for his master. There, he learned magic in a monastery in the mountains. He was freed, married Clea, and returned to England where he was Personal Physician to Queen Elizabeth I of England late in her reign.
