Gilbert Giles Search for 'Gilbert Giles' on eBay Bio: Developed a "bio-retardant" with Hank Heywood (Steel) which would enable men to surgically replace damaged limbs and organs. When Heywood was nearly killed in an explosion, Giles used this technology to rebuilt Heywood's body from the skeleton up, using steel alloy tubing to replace bone, micro-motors to help him move his metal joints, and an artificial lung and backup heart device. Later, Giles would undergo similar surgery with the same experimental material to save his own life. His own body now enhanced, Giles realized the true identity of Steel was Heywood, and gave him an ultimatum: either give up being Steel, or stop seeing Giles' daughter. Heywood chose the latter.
