The powers of the goddess Isis: Powers of the forces of nature, and of animals; Powers of the mystical regions of the mind.

On a scientific expedition in Egypt, searching for relics of a bygone civilization, Andrea Thomas discovered an amulet and a scroll.
Something compelled her to put on the amulet and suddenly she could read the hieroglyphic writing on the scroll.

The scroll, originally belonging to Queen Hatshepsut, the only woman pharaoh, told that the wearer of the amulet need only speak the words "Mighty Isis" and they would have the powers of Isis.

Having nothing to lose by trying, Andrea spoke the words and became the mighty Isis.

Filmation had licensed the rights to DC Comics' Shazam series for a live-action Saturday-morning TV-series. It had been so successful, they decided to create a female counterpart to spin-off into her own series. Thus, Isis was born.

DC, in turn, licensed the rights to Isis from Filmation, and brought her into the comic book world.
