51st century scientist responsible for creating an artificial "sun". The sun, however, turned out to be a sentient life form, with which he could not safely communicate. Hoping to get in touch with a time traveller, he sent an SOS down the artificial time vortex incidentally created by the "sun". His message reached the TARDIS, and the Doctor was able to communicate with the creature. It agreed to go form a self-sustaining artificial sun for humanity in a different solar system. However, the Doctor was unable to prevent Crivello's other artificial intelligence, his "butler" Marquez, from killing Crivello.
This character poses problems for televised Doctor Who continuity, in light of the 2005 series. There, Russell T. Davies has posited that Earth was populated by humans as late as about the year 5 billion. This is much later than the 51st century from which Crivello comes.
