Wendy Harris (DC)(Earth-1)

Human mortal.

Quite differently than her animated counterpart, the comic version of Wendy was given quite a bit of character definition from her creator, E. Nelson Bridwell. That life history certainly pulls the character into closer orbit of the rest of the DCU.

Wendy is the niece of Harvey Harris, a detective who helped to train the Earth-1 Batman. She came to study crime fighting at the Hall of Justice because of this connection. Prior to his death, Harvey had figured out Batman's teen-aged secret identity. A letter, delivered to the Batman after the funeral, confirmed that fact. Though it is not known whether that letter also included a request to tutor Harris' niece, the implication certainly is that the Batman would have felt that helping Wendy would have been a way of honoring his dead mentor.

Bridwell pushed Wendy's connection to the DCU even further in his text introduction to The Super Friends (1977) #1. He suggested an even greater tie to the DCU:

"Readers of DC mags may recall another Wendy Harris on the parallel world of Earth-Two, where the Justice Society members live. She is now married to Rex Tyler (The Hourman). Since many people on Earth-Two are older than their Earth-One doubles (Superman, Batman etc.), perhaps this is the Earth-Two version of our Wendy".

When Wendy "graduated" from The Super Friends, she set off for a university on Paradise Island. This life change was later referenced in a brief, un-named post-Crisis appearance on Themyscira.

This character was created for the cartoon series, The Super Friends. She has no existence in the pre-Crisis DCU outside of the cartoon's accompanying comic book. This "Hanna-Barbera Earth" was never named or numbered, but the comic on which its based can reasonably be said to be Earth-1.
