Nova Prime (Marvel)
Real Name: Tanak Valt
Search for 'Nova Prime (Marvel)' on Amazon

Powers:
Superhuman strength (2 tons), endurance, resistance to injury, and flight.

Bio:
Tanak Valt is from Xandar, the birthplace of the Nova Corps and a planet that suffered many destructive invasions against it.

During the second of these destructive invasions, an invasion from The Skrulls, Adora, Queen of Xandar and wife to Tanak, transported herself to Earth where she found The Fantastic Four and enlisted their aid against the Skrulls. Tanak was injured when he took a blast meant for Adora from the Skrulls who were trying to stop her from leaving the planet.

After a few days in stasis, Tanak recovered and resumed his position as high commander of the Nova Corps in battle against the Skrulls. The Fantastic Four during the battle however were captured and brought to the Skrull homeworld. After managing to escape in a Skrull ship, they were attacked by a Xandar ship which carried the heroes Nova, Powerhouse, Crimebuster and Comet, as well as the villains Diamondhead, Doctor Sun and the Sphinx. Both Doctor Sun and the Sphinx were after the power that Xandar's Living Computers offered. Both believed that if they could tap into the knowledge possessed by the computer system, they could achieve unlimited power. Nova, realizing they had accidentally attacked the Fantastic Four rescued them and all landed on Xandar.

The Sphinx was able to gain the knowledge he sought from the computers and head for Earth to destroy his homeworld. Doctor Sun as well was able to integrate himself into the computer system, but ended up immobilized. When Mr. Fantastic created the robot H.E.R.B.I.E. in an effort to help them locate Galactus, as he was the only being powerful enough to stop the Sphinx, Master Xar of Xandar provided an organic link from the Living Computer System to H.E.R.B.I.E. and Doctor Sun took over the robot's body and left with the Fantastic Four, unbeknownst to everyone.

As well on Xandar, Thoran Rul of Xandar, also known as Protector, was able to integrate himself with the Living Computer System when he asked for help in defeating the Skrulls, becoming incredibly powerful in doing so. Protector, Nova Prime, the Nova Corps and the newly formed Champions of Xandar (Nova Prime, Protector, Powerhouse, Nova, Crimebuster and the Comet) fought hard against the Skrull invasion for months. The Skrulls eventually retreated, as they did, to plan another attack. Protector, Nova Prime and many Nova Corps members followed the Skrulls while the rest of the Champions of Xandar stayed behind. After months of waiting, Crimebuster, Comet and Diamondhead eventually followed, leaving Powerhouse and Nova behind to protect Adora and Xandar.

Diamondhead stayed true to his villainous roots and betrayed the Champions and Xandar to the Skrulls, allowing the Skrulls to infiltrate many Xandarian ships. Crimebuster discovered their plan, and as he tried to warn the rest of The Champions, he was murdered by a Skrull. The rest of the Champions and many Xandarians were then imprisoned by the Skrulls who used dimensional phaser technology to place them in an alternate dimension.

The Skrulls then invaded Xandar once more. The Xandarians were joined by ROM, who ended up on Xandar in search of his own homeworld. The Champions were freed and alongside ROM, the Xandarians who were inspired to fight as well as Nova Prime and the rest of the Champions, after a brutal battle with many casualties on both sides, were able to defeat and repel the Skrull invasion.

ROM went on in search of his own homeworld and Nova was transported back to Earth, minus his Nova powers which had to remain on Xandar. Comet decided to stay on Xandar in memory of his son, Crimebuster, who had died in the war. Nova Prime, Protector, Powerhouse and Comet continued to act as The Champions of Xandar until a brutal assault by Nebula and her forces destroyed most of Xandar and slaughtered everyone on the planet, including Nova Prime and his wife Adora.

Notes:
The battle which claimed the life of Nova Prime, his fellow Champions of Xandar (Comet, Protector & Powerhouse) and all remaining Xandarians on the planet at the time, actually took place off panel. It was revealed in Avengers #260 what had happened, when native Xandarian Firelord, returned home and found Adora dying. She was able to tell him what had happened just before she died, but no other characters that were slain were seen on panel. Nova Prime's last appearance before his off panel death, was in ROM #24.
