Bio:
John Carter was a Civil War veteran. He fell asleep in a cave while hiding from Apaches and woke up on Mars. The lighter gravity of Mars, called Barsoom by the inhabitants, gives Carter superhuman strength. Carter later mastered the ability to travel between Earth and Mars.

Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, first appearing in the novel "A Princess of Mars" in 1912.
