Ralph Edwards

Search for 'Ralph Edwards' on Amazon

Famous for creating some of America's most beloved game shows, Ralph Edwards is to that genre of entertainment what Will Eisner is to comic books. He created and hosted the radio and television game show, Truth or Consequences, his most long-running show. He was also responsible for creating This Is Your Life and The People's Court. He was producer for several revivals of pre-existing shows, such as Name That Tune and The Price is Right.

His honest, be-yourself style of hostine outlived him in the form of protégé, Bob Barker, whom Edwards had first used as his replacement as host of Truth or Consequences in the late 1950s.

He was actively involved in raising money for cancer research. Because of this, the Game Show Congress created the Ralph Edwards Service Award, which is presented annually to the game show personality who notably works for charitable causes.

It is likely this public support for a good cause that was responsible for Bob Barker's public advocacy of animal rights.
