Mary Brock

Search for 'Mary Brock' on Amazon

Bio:
Mary was the older sister of Eddie Brock (aka Venom), the first child of Jamie and Carl Brock. Jamie later died while giving birth to Eddie, which allowed for all the housework and daily responsibilities around the house to eventually fall to Mary. This led to some animosity between her and her brother and eventually she, like her father, blamed Eddie for the death of their mother.

The two were able to later reconcile in life, even forming a fairly good bond between them. When Mary was injured during a fight the superhero known as Nova had with the Quintronic Man, she was left in a coma. Enraged, Venom tried to take revenge on Nova for this.

At some point later in her life, it was revealed that Mary developed cancer. She passed away due to this.

Eddie, later in his life, tried reconnecting with his estranged father, Carl, and in doing so, brought up Mary. Carl was confused, claiming that he had no idea who Mary was. When Eddie responded with the fact that Mary was his sister, Carl's daughter, Carl grew angry, claiming he was playing games.

It has since been revealed that Mary, along with some other memories of Eddie's, such as a memory of Eddie's Uncle Dan dying of cancer, were implants from the Venom symbiote. Mary in fact, never existed, and was used to keep Eddie weak and in need of the Venom symbiote so that the two would never separate.

Notes:
In Nova (1999) #6, Mary is referred to by Eddie Brock as "my baby sister". As this completely contradicted previously set out continuity that Eddie's mother Jamie died during childbirth with Eddie, it was later corrected in Venom Dark Origin that she was in fact Eddie's older sister.
