Barracuda was hired by Joe Manfredi (formerly Blackwing I, the son of Silvermane) as part of the super-villain group Heavy Mettle to take down The New Warriors and obtain Turbo's armor. After setting up an ambush, Heavy Mettle and The New Warriors fought. Barracuda and the rest of Heavy Mettle were able to escape. After Firestrike turned against the team because of his feelings for Turbo, Nova infiltrated Heavy Mettle posing as Firestrike, and The New Warriors were able defeat Heavy Mettle, sending them all to prison.
