Brother Power was a dressmaker's dummy. Hippie Nick Cranston placed his clothing on the dummy to keep them from shrinking after he was beaten and bloodied by bikers and and placed it by the radiator. Some time later, Nick had still not removed the clothing from the dummy, and it and the radiator were struck by lightning during a storm. This brought the dummy to life. He seemed to be nearly indestructible and his strength was so vast that Nick and his friends, Paul, and Cindy, dubbed their new friend "Brother Power."
Brother Power was abducted by a circus and dubbed a geek, but was rescued by his friends. Cindy painted a face on "Pow," as he came to be called, and he started going to school, but he was so smart and so unusual looking that he resorted to autodidacticism.
He then runs for Congress with the campaign, "Brother Power for Flower Power." He gets jobs from his friends in the flower child community at J.P. Acme's widget factory, and outwits the vile account, Lord Sliderule. He is give n a promotion after telling Acme a way to efficiently use left-handed workers.
Trying to stop a sabotaged rocket that he expects will be blamed on the hippies, Brother Power becomes trapped inside. governor Reagan thinks that California would be better off without Brother Power, and allows the rocket to be launched.
About twenty years later, the Svarozhich/Raymond/Arkadin incarnation of Firestorm, acting on behest of Sarge Steel, finds a satellite in space (which does not particularly resemble the rocket), and sends it crashing to earth, killing 5,000 people in Tampa, Florida. Brother Power emerges from the satellite with a newfound ability to grow to giant size and possess homunculi--any object of a roughly human likeness--and shape it to his usual appearance. He is constantly calling out to find Cindy. Eventually Chester Williams talks to him and gets him to calm down and depart.
Eventually, he finds himself working at a circus, with the epithet of geek truer than it has been before--he is forced to bite off chicken heads before a paying audience. He continues to look for Cindy, and has another run-in with Lord Sliderule. Eventually, he finds Cindy working as a prostitute, and, after destroying his main body in a fire, possesses her favorite doll.
He attended John Constantine's millennium party and complained when someone spilled a drink on him.
Some time later, he accompanied Cindy to Gotham City, where she started a toy store, but it was burned down by arsonists.
