Former staff psychiatrist at Belle Reve prison, Simon La Grieve often acted as the conscience of Amanda Waller. La Grieve and Waller first came into contact when she was seeking psychiatric help following the tragedies that had struck her family. It was La Grieve who first helped Amanda Waller come to terms with her anger, which allowed her to re-direct her anger as a tool. Resigning from Task Force X to make a point, La Grieve wound up founding the Institute for Meta-Human Studies, with the assistance of Emily Rice, Professor Martin Stein, and Lorraine Reilly, better known as Firehawk. Simon La Grieve often turned to his wife Ruth for support.
