2010-05-04 02:07:53 ccl080673 Bio Lex Luthor (of Earth 1) used Professor Dalton's work to create a second Bizarro in an effort to have an evil "match" for the Man of Steel. Unfortunately for Luthor, this Bizarro did not exhibit actual evil tendencies. Instead he respected Superman, and tried to be like him. Sadly, being so "backwards", his efforts were often clumsy, and therefore destructive. He eventually voluntarily relocated to the planet of "Hrtae" (Earth spelled backwards), where he continued to populate the world with others made in either his image or that of the broader Superman Family. Superman eventually came to visit Hrtae, where he was promptly arrested for "looking normal". He got out of jail by offering to hammer the spherical planet into a cube. Thus was created the square "Bizarro World" that was a recurring fixture of the DCU from the 1960s through to the Crisis on Infinite Earths. This Bizarro eventually died in the final pre-Crisis Superman story. Mr. Mxyzptlk had somehow controlled Bizarro to the point that he destroyed Hrtae—and was causing significant damage to Earth—while Superman had been off world doing research for the US government. In the end, instead of trying to clumsily imitate Superman, he had become obsessed with doing the opposite of Superman. Thus he was—in a way completely out of character for this Bizarro—actually evil. But somewhere deep inside his original good-heartedness fought against what he had become. Unable to come up with any other way to resolve his inner conflict, he killed himself with a chunk of blue kryptonite. 2010-05-04 02:07:53 ccl080673 Notes Though not the original Bizarro, this is by far the more dominant of the two pre-Crisis characters known as "Bizarro". Indeed, DC's total "Bizarro output" over the years has, to date, featured this version of the character over any others.

Note on first appearance:
While Action #254 is the first comic book appearance of this character, there is an argument to be made that the character was first used in the Superman daily newspaper strips in October 1958. Despite Bizarro 01's early demise, It's difficult to tell whether the character in the dailies is meant to be Bizarro 01 or Bizarro 02.

2007-10-02 01:49:32 ccl080673 Powers Had two different powersets. Initially, he had exactly the same powers as Superman. But he was stuck by a meteorite which "reversed" his powers. Thus he came to have "ice vision", "fire breath", "X-ray vision that would only penetrate lead", etc. Had two different power sets. Initially, he had exactly the same powers as Superman.
