Ruwan had been an editor at the largest children's publisher, Scholastic Inc., for 4 years in both its kids magazine and children's book group. Prior to Scholastic that, he had freelanced as a children's educational editor and writer for a number of publishers.

Needing a change from the world of picture books and middle grade fiction, Ruwan wanted the opportunity to build product, lines of business and extend his reach within the publishing industry and beyond it.

The opportunity to work at Marvel really came out of nowhere. Like many jobs, he applied and interviewed for it, he became completely obsessed with getting the job, and had to sweat it out as Marvel made their decision.

After several weeks of nail biting and being a complete nut, he finally heard back. Obviously it worked out for him because he's with Marvel now and has climbed the ladder of success from editing bestselling prose novels, managing and increasing licensed publishing revenue, bringing in third party licenses like Stephen King's Dark Tower and Microsoft's HALO, working with Disney Publishing to expand Marvel's reach within the children's realm, to producing several series of animation based on comic book storylines, and to becoming SVP, Associate Publisher of Marvel Comics. So yeah it worked out for him!
