Lam got started in the animation industry shortly after graduating high school. She showed her portfolio to Sunscript Studios booth and that allowed her to get her foot into the door to do backgrounds for the Swordsmen animation project Sunscript. Then, during a later project, Lam colored six pages solo, leading to her promotion as lead colorist.
Eventually, the relationship with her co-workers at Sunscripts helped her gain the job at Red 5 Comics, when J. Korim, an artist she worked with on the production of a never released comic Rotogin, recommended her as the colorist of Neozoic.

Jessie goes by "aXL99″ sometimes. It started off as “archangel_xl99″ trying to find a handle for her Yahoo IM. “XL” stood for “excel”, and “99″ was the year she began taking a career in art seriously. She now uses the handle (with and without the underscore) for various art communities and in her early professional work as a comic colourist. Eventually it was shortened it to “aXL99″.
