Volker Reiche studied law, but his love for drawing got in the way of a career in law. In 1979, he had to become his own publisher for his first comic album 'Liebe' ('Love'). Reiche worked sporadically for the satirical magazines Pardon and Titanic as wel as for Hinz und Kunz from 1978 to 1981. In the early 1980s, Reiche created the comic character 'Willi Wiedehopf'. The first comic album of his series appeared in 1984. In 1985 Reiche was asked to do a new series of 'Mecki', created by Reinhold Escher, for the revived television weekly Hor Zü. For the Frankfürter Allgemeine Zeitung, he draws the newspaper strip 'Strizz'. On the side Volker Reiche started painting oils.
