After running a Fantsatic Four fan site for several years, beginning in 1996, he was named “Comics’ #1 Fan” by Diamond Comic Distributors in 2003. Kleefeld has had his work published by Marvel Comics and Titan Books, and he is credited in the "Jack Kirby: Storyteller" documentary. He maintains an ongoing column for The Jack Kirby Collector and has been threatening to write Comic Book Fanthropology for several years.
