Ernie Schroeder studied at the Art Students League and worked in comics during the 1940s and 1950s. During his military service in World War II, he drew gag cartoonst for his camp newspaper. He was on the staff of Parents' Magazine Press in the second half of the 1940s, working on 'Billy Brain Billy', 'Calling All Boys', 'Calling All Kids' and 'True Comics'. He cooperated with Ed Cronin on 'Airboy' and 'The Heap' for Hillman Periodicals. He worked mainly for Harvey Comics, among others on 'Captain Freedom'.
He additionally did romance stories for Feautre Comics and 'Black Knight' for Toby Press. Schroeder retired from comics in the late 1950s to operate his own marina in Florida. He did commercial art for Boeing in the 1960s, and was active in sculpting (Franklin Mint) in the 1970s.
