Jason was born on the 16th of August 1965 in Molde, Norway. He released the graphic novel Pocketful of Rain in 1995 to wide acclaim locally, and began his solo series Mjau Mjau (published by Jippi Forlag) in 1997 (12 issues to date). Stories from Mjau Mjau have been collected in the albums Hey, Wait… (U.S. edition published by Fantagraphics in 2001); Sshhhh! (U.S. edition published by Fantagraphics in 2002); The Iron Wagon (an adaptation of the 19th Century Stein Riverton mystery novel of the same name, published by Fantagraphics in 2003); Tell Me Something (Fantagraphics, 2004), You Can’t Get There From Here (2004) and Meow, Baby! (Fantagraphics, 2005).
His current release is Why Are You Doing This?. his first full-color graphic novel, which has been released in French, Norwegian, and English (Fantagraphics, 2005).
Jason won the Norwegian "Sproing" Award for "Best Norwegian Comic Book" twice, in 1995 (for Pocketful of Rain) and 2000 (for an issue of Mjau Mjau). The American edition of Hey, Wait… was nominated for two Harvey Awards, as well as being cited as the second best comic of 2001 by Time.com.
Jason, whose work has been translated into Swedish, Finnish, German, Italian and French in addition to English, is living temporarily in Montpellier, France.
