2012-03-25 23:54:06 rolandmann Bio A true Southern boy, Roland was born in Memphis, TN and raised in Mississippi. He spent his high school growing up years in Brandon, Miss., where he graduated from Northwest Rankin in 1983. He attended Hinds Jr. College and then transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned his B.S. in English/Creative Writing. Roland broke into comics in 1989 as a writer of indy comics, where he wrote such titles as Cat & Mouse, Miss Fury, Rocket Ranger, Demon’s Tales, and others… He started freelance editing in ‘91 when he saw there was a wealth of untapped talent in the South Mississippi region. He was hired as an editor with Malibu Comics located in California in 1992. He edited the Genesis line of comics ( Protectors, Dinos for Hire, Ex-Mutants, etc). Then Malibu bought Image and shortly wanted a “high profile” superhero universe to replace Image once they’d gone. So, Ultraverse was created and the Genesis line was cancelled. For UV, Roland edited Sludge, Night Man, Strangers, Prototype, Rune and others. When Marvel later bought Malibu, he was made Managing Editor. A year later, Marvel canned the entire Malibu division. Roland moved back to the South, earned his M.A. in English from the University of North Alabama and started teaching English at the local university. He also re-started Silverline where he published such titles as Switchblade, Marauder, The Scary Book and SilverStorm II. As of early 2010, Roland lives with his family in Oxford, Miss. He has completed an MFA in Writing and his first novel, BUYING TIME, was published.
