2014-07-15 02:14:55 Davids Bio David Scroggy has been involved with the comics business since he moved to California from his hometown of Akron, Ohio in 1975. There, he began a long association with the San Diego Comic Convention (now Comic-Con International), wrote a regular column for the Comics Buyer's Guide, and began working for Pacific Comics, an early comics specialty retailer. David began as a manager of Pacific's flagship store and went on to manage the company's direct-sales distribution pursuits in the early days of the marketplace. When Pacific began publishing comic books in 1981, he served as editorial director, continuing until 1983. After leaving Pacific, Scroggy formed a business as an artist representative, which continued to September 1993 as the David Scroggy Agency. From 1984 to 1993, David served as the director of Comic Book Expo, the trade show associated with Comic-Con International. During this time, Scroggy was able to present and ongoing program of continuing education for comics retailers featuring national experts in advertising, store design, business planning . In 1993 David joined Dark Horse Comics as Vice President Publishing. A year later, he was asked by Mike Richardson to start a new department, Product Development, that would develop toys, statues, gift items and collectibles related to comics and pop culture. He remains with Dark Horse in this capacity, traveling extensively to Asia and elsewhere working with manufacturers, licensors and creative talents. David Scroggy has been recognized a number of times by the comics industry, and has won the Eisner Award (for Dark Horse’s comic-related products), Inkpot Award and Diamond Gem award. He is frequently interviewed and quoted on the comics, licensing and toy industries by the media.
