The Nicieza (pronounced "nee-see-EH-sah") family moved to the United States when Fabian was three. He grew up in New Jersey and went to college at Rutgers University. He joined Marvel in 1985 working his way up from manufacturing assistant to writing his first comic tale in 1987 with Psi-Force #9.
Fabian eventually left the House of Ideas to become the Editor-in-Chief at Acclaim in 1996. Success was brief, and he left in 1999 to return to writing producing stories for Marvel, Dark Horse and DC.
