2008-12-13 15:14:41 stoshmaster Bio Born in Hoboken New Jersey in 1959 (along with twin sister, Laima). Started clipping Dick Tracy comics into homemade comic books as a child. Family moved to suburban New Jersey where a 10-year-old Kaz discovered a huge park and play around next door to his new home. It turned out to be the neighbor's backyard. Started drawing cartoons on brown grocery bags which were filled with garbage and tossed away. Discovered comic books. Became bad student. Watched too much television. Studied Loony Tunes. Started smoking cigarettes in the woods. Broke windows with deadbeat friends. Tried drawing super heroes but couldn't get the muscles right. Gave up drawing. Discovered underground comics. Started drawing again. This time drew funny animals having sex and killing each other. Got it right. Discovered girls. Discovered love and sex. Kept reading underground comics. Discovered drugs. Underground comics got better. Discovered fine arts. Out of High School got a dead-end job working in a factory. Began drinking. After passing out in a fit on the assembly line one morning decided to apply and was accepted to the School of Visual Arts in New York. Studied comics under Art Spiegelman and contributed to the early issues of Raw magazine while still a student. Dropped out of art school and contributed comics to various publications. This work was eventually collected into first anthology collection: Buzzbomb. Began contributing illustrations to Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Details, The New Yorker, GQ, Screw, anybody! Co-edited comics anthology: Snake Eyes for Fantagraphics. It ran three issues. Started weekly self-syndicated comic strip: Underworld. Underworld collected into book April of 95 by Fantagraphics. Sidetrack City and other tales, a collection of longer comic strips published by Fantagraphics in Febuary of 96. Second collection of Underworld comics published December96. Designed a series of Print ads for Nexis on-line service that ran in business magazines. Art show: Exit Art's Comic Power show. NYC. The Underworld comic strip is published weekly in the New York Press, LA Weekly, Seattle Stranger, Chicago Reader, Washington (DC) City Paper, Miami New Times, The Arizona Rebublic, The Cleveland Scene, Vice Magazine, Hear Say (College Weekly), Portland Mercury, Weekly Alibi (New Mexico). The Underworld comic strip was nominated for a Harvey Award (voted on by comics professionals) for best self-syndicated comic strip in 1996 and 1997. A comic series: How To Draw is published In Nickelodeon magazine. Lectured at the Brooklyn Museum Of Art with a Underworld comics slide show. Attended the International Festival Of Comics in Athens, Greece as guest of honor. Illustration work for the New York Times Magazine. 1999. Designed Droopy Dog animated short with Curious Pictures for the Cartoon Network. A five-page comic strip, THE HUNGRY HORSE published in LITTLE LIT, a children's book edited by Art Spiegelman (Harper Collens) in the Fall of 2000. A five-page comic strip, SHIBARAKU published in Japan's Brutis Magazine Jan 2001 Kaz's Underworld strips continue to be republished and translated into Greek in Babel Magazine (Greece). Kaz went to work as a writer and storyboard director for Nickelodeon's SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Cartoon Show from Jan 2001 to Sept 2001. The 4th collection of Underworld comics DUH, Underworld 4 published by Fantagraphics Summer 2001. Designed endpapers for Little Lit #2 Strange Stories.
