New look for ComicBookDB.com?

Postby Chris » Sat Nov 04, 2017 10:34 pm

I may build a new look for the ComicBookDB.com site and I have a UX designer who'd like to interview some of our users. Any takers?

By interview, do you mean asking for suggestions on what new site should look like?

If so, for starters
1) suggestions in Patreon thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8076
2) taking "This entry contains mature content" and changing "entry" to either "cover" or "webpage" (and maybe add a webpage what qualifies as mature) (example: what about the dead Supergirl on cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985) - #7)
And change "mature" to "adult" ??? ("Mature content" thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1049 )

will get back to this, after I whip up last minute suggested covers for Rememberance Day/Veterans Day (Nov 11).

An old suggestion that probably doesn't fall under "new look" suggestions,
but I would still like to see:

Changing ComicBookDB's
Public User Lists so anyone can add a comic to a List started by someone else.

Today added Marvel Legacy as a Story Arc, ... but would probably be more appropriate as a collaboratively editable Public User List.

And maybe change the story arc pages so Story Arc Name is in the webpage title.

Example: webpage title of http://comicbookdb.com/storyarc.php?ID=6175
is just "Comic Book DB - The Comic Book Database".
Suggest page would be better if webpage title started with "Square One (Oni) - Comic Book ..." (with end of title either "DB" or "Database")

Had a suggestion that I think would be useful (although not regarding look of site)

I'm hoping an user could change their defaults they get when they start to add a comic to the database list of their collection.

At the moment when clicking "Add this issue to your collection"
you get defaults of:
Condition: Near Mint
Quantity: 1
Storage: Bagged/Boarded
Tradeable: No
Sellable: No
Read/Unread: Read
etc

I'm fine with some of those defaults, but wondering if would be possible at some point in the future to have personal defaults for some of those fields.
Example: some of the defaults I'd like to have (for myself)
1) Conditon: Unrated
2) Storage: Bagged
3) Read/Unread: Unread

That way there would be less changes to make each time and adding to my database collection would become quicker.

Not sure if it qualifies as a "look" issue,
but I think "Reviews: " section of an issue's webpage should be with "Rating" page of the page.

(if not there ... then Reviews section should be directly above (or directly below) "For an indepth discussion on this issue:" section.)

And maybe change "For an indepth discussion on this issue:" wording
to something like ""For an indepth discussion on this issue (podcasts and videos only)".
Since apparently text-only discussion links not eligible for "... indepth discussion..." section.

Example of "... indepth discussion..." at
