Server Maintenance

Postby Chris » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:08 pm

We're going to be going down for a couple of hours starting at 1pm EST to do the load balancing and all that good stuff. We'll be back up asap.

OK folks, the site database has been moved to another server and is officially live. I know there were a few issues after the move and I think we have most of it ironed out.

We have not personally tested every aspect of the site - only page loading. So if anyone sees anything weird or errors popping up, please report it so we can work on it. Feel free to post about improvements as well :).

Thanks for everyone's patience today.

There's a blue one now?! Oy...

Edit: Oh, from the Mini-Marvels... yeah, forgot about him.

It seems to be working fairly well. It'd not timing out like it was a few days ago, though it does seem a little sluggish at times, when adding issue thumbnails, ratings, etc.

Overall though, much improvement!

Thanks for the feedback. Since it seems to be fairly stable we can begin tweaking the MySQL configuration to improve some of the performance.

Stay tuned.

We've added some tweaks to the remote MySQL config. Please post some feedback on any performance issues, improvements, etc.

Looks like you can not add a new creator as well.

Folks,

Can someone provide me details on how to replicate the problem? I'm not that familiar with the site dynamics but would like to test it.

This may or may not be a related issue. Might have to do with the newly added character inheritance feature.

When adding characters to a newly created issue, the entire character list isn't always visible on the issue's main index page. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem consistently yet, but I think an inherited character has always been an aspect of the problem issues.

Here's an example:
http://www.comicbookdb.com/issue_charac ... ?ID=168958

Pantha is present in the character list, but not on the issue's page:
http://www.comicbookdb.com/issue.php?ID=168958

(I added the character to individual stories later.)

I -think- the problem has been rectified. I can see Blue Hulk as an option to add as a character now. Uthor, are you still having the same problem with adding new issues to your collection?

I added about 15 characters while this problem was present and I'm not seeing any problems at all now adding them to issues. Thanks Chris.

new creator error again

Postby EarthFurst » Mon May 11, 2009 9:32 pm

Added new creator Claude J Pelletier
http://www.comicbookdb.com/creator.php?ID=22680

But Claude doesn't show up when I try to add him to an issue ( Tried to add him to new issue "The Gates of Pandragon (1991) - #1" at http://www.comicbookdb.com/issue.php?ID=169915 )

Possible related error message at: viewtopic.php?p=6084#6084

he's showing up for me - i added him as the writer to that issue, just to make sure it would work. typed 'pellet' and the box came up with four names in it, the second being his. maybe the server was just a bit slow in updating?

Possibly related issue: only She-Hulk II is showing up on the regular page for the latest Savage She-Hulk ( http://comicbookdb.com/issue.php?ID=170333 ). However, both She-Hulks are featured in the issue, and are already in the character list when updating the characters...
