credit translator as an writer?

Postby EarthFurst » Mon Mar 23, 2009 9:45 pm

I've added a "Roland: Days of Wrath - #4" (angel and sword cover) and the inside front cover says:

"Roland: Days of Wrath was adapted from a translation of The Song of Roland by Frederick Goldin."

Should the translator Frederick Goldin be credited as an writer of the comic?

(I skimmed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Song_of_Roland and it seems that people are unsure who authored The Song of Roland )

I have always listed the translator only in the notes field and not added them as a writer. I can't remember if that is an official standard or just something I started doing. I could see benefits and disadvantages to doing it either way. I'll ask Chris if he has an opinion.

So maybe it should be placed in general guidelines?

I would rather add that to the Help page. I would like the general guidelines to remain general, and save the more particular stuff for the Help page and the eventual walk-through I hope to write up someday.

If a translator alters the story maybe should that be classed for writing a new part? Some times something doesn't translate from one to another. Qi had something about one nation having 50 words for item loction when us in english so that thing just there hanging off the edge or 50 words for snow.
