I would propose that books have two title fields: one for the strict indicia title, one for the title as best interpreted from the cover.
There are hundreds of examples in the CBDB where strict indicia title wasn't used, and books have become lost and entered multiple times. Sometimes indicia title is just not tenable. How about the change from X-Men (vol. 1)
to Uncanny X-Men? By the indicia, I believe it only became "uncanny" around issue 141 or so. There are already concessions about books such as Annuals and TPBs, which have their own unique indicia title. What about Thor
changing to Mighty Thor (in the indicia around #407) and then back to Thor within the same volume/start date?
I used to believe I could file all my books by indicia title, but then realized I would be opening up bags and paging through comics every time I couldn't fathom why a book was filed where I found it. How about the "Sabretooth and Mystique"
miniseries? The indicia for all four books clearly reads "Mystique and Sabretooth". It's easier to judge the title by the book's cover
I also can't stand when a comic's volume/series or imprint is listed in the indicia as part of the title. If we went by strict indicia, She-Hulk (2005)
should really be "She-Hulk 2".
Two title fields--any better ideas?
