Creating additional printings

I've been avoiding creating additional printings on the trades I've been entering in my collection, just putting them in my notes so I could go about entering them later.

But I figured I would give it a shot and tried to create a 4th printing of Sandman TPB Vol. 9 "The Kindly Ones."

I apparently did it wrong and created a new entry under Sandman.

Sorry. Could I get it deleted and get some instructions on how to create additional printings. I did a quick search of the forum, but didn't find anything relevant.

Also what are some of the rules for additional printings. If you look at the Sandman trades you'll see some as 2nd Edition and some as Second Printing.

What is the thinking on duplicating covers as in copying a cover already in the database, because sometimes there are little differences that you might not notice. I know sometimes the publisher with make a reprinting use the same art, but darken or tint it. Personally, I did notice that my copy of the second printing of Red as a little "soon to be a major motion picture" bit on it that isn't on the second printing's version of the cover.

Okay, now I'm confused again.

I have Sandman (1989) - TPB vol. 10 The indicia text says:

Second Printing. ISBN: 1-56389-287-1 - Hardcover
Third Printing. ISBN: 1-56389-279-0 - Trade paperback

I am assuming that means it is the Third Printing of this trade and they just used the same printing layout for the hardcover or something. In the database though the 2nd printing is listed as having the cover on the issue I have and there is a different cover on the 3rd printing. Am I reading this wrong? Are the covers wrong in the DB? Or is there something else I'm not getting?

If you look at the Sandman trades you'll see some as 2nd Edition and some as Second Printing.

2nd Edition and 2nd Printing is usually not the same. Sandman changed its trade dress at least 4 times so far (1st edition, 2nd edition, 3rd edition and 4th edition featuring the new coloring created for the Absolute editions). So yeah some day you will probably see "4th Edition, 2nd Printing or something like this).

And additional printings are created via the "add a variant" function:

--> Change this cover or add a variant --> Add another version of this issue.
