Under suspicion of murder, Wolverine has gone into hiding, with Hank McCoy along. Logan begins to question himself, maybe he was under mind control and did indeed kill the Senator, but the Beast refuses to believe this. S.H.I.E.L.D. are assigned to bring Wolverine in, but because of their personal history Nick Fury is not the one to lead the taskforce. Instead a young agent named Brent Jackson eagerly takes over, vowing to capture Logan dead or alive. Secretly Fury calls the Shiver Man, a bounty hunter and old friend, to capture Wolverine alive before Jackson reaches him. Wolverine learns about this through a phone call from his old teammate Maverick, but it’s too late as the Shiver Man already found the two X-Men. Yet they defeat him and escape, only to found a note from Fury at their hideout. They attempt to meet him, but it turns out to be a trap by Jackson. The Fury who left the note and welcomes Logan and Hank is only a LMD (life model decoy). Both mutants are arrested.
