Star Wars: Dark Empire (1991) #3 - The Battle for Calamari
Story Arc(s): Add/remove story arcs to this issue
A war for the planet Calamari erupts over that planet's surface, already threatened by the massive World Destroyers. While Lando and Wedge take on the Imperial stormtroopers, Leia--whose mission to help Luke in the last issue has at least temporarily stalled, is tormented by visions of Luke being sucked into the darkness. She is particularly frightened by a vision of Darth Vader melting into that of Luke, who warns her to stay away.
Meanwhile, Han has been training Republic forces on the operation of newly-commissioned fighters. Leia recalls him from his duties. They are going to try again to free Luke from the threat she feels. The Falcon has to make a run deep into the Galactic Core to do so. Han asks, however, that they stop off at Nar Shaddaa, the smuggler's moon.
As with most Solo-inspired ideas, though, it's ill-advised. Some Hutts, probably relatives of Jabba, are still sore with the Solos for what happened in Episode VI. As the Falcon tries to land, bounty hunters attempt to collect. With the help of some friends, Han and Leia escape long enough to find Han's old, pre-Episode IV apartment. Inside, his old droid, ZZ, is repeating the same thing over and over: "Mr. Fett is here to see you, sir."
As with the rest of the issues in this series, the book also contains a 4-page text article explaining the gap between the end of Episode VI and the beginning of this series.
