Synopsis: In 1953 Rome, Leonid is taken to the Immortal City and introduced to the High Council of The Shield. They relate the story of their beginnings and invite Leonid to join The Shield.
Three years later, Leonid's father, the Night Machine, arrives and helps Leonid open the "door that can't be opened". Beyond the door, Leonid meets a Shield member from the distant past.
Synopsis: Leonardo da Vinci makes Leonid recall his past and reveals some shocking secrets. Meanwhile, the Night Machine fights Shield agents, and disappears with two of them. Da Vinci leads Leonid back to the Council chamber and reveals to him that The Shield has changed over the years and he (da Vinci) means to set things right.
Synopsis: Isaac Newton is recruited into The Shield by Galilieo Galilei. He later imprisons Nostradamus, and recounts to him some of the highlights of The Shield's past, such as fighting Galacuts in antiquity, and his own trials among the Deviants. Newton is revealed as the present-day leader of The Shield.
