While Dragon has yet to return from new York, Dart and Star fail to stop a prison break by members of the Vicious Circle, including Cutthroat, Mako, Doubleheader, Lowblow, and Hardware, who is murdered by Cutthroat. Dart and Star are rescued by the youthful Mighty Man, a supposedly dead Superero of the 1940s. Dragon soon visits Dart in the hospital, while Frank Darling is still blackmailed by Overlord and Skullface. Suddenly, Dragon is attacked by The Fiend, a demonic creature of pure hatred possessing a police officer. The officer is killed, however, and the Fiend leaves his body.

The new Mighty Man dons a brand new costume that he designed and shows it off to his roommate, a young woman who goes by the name of Phyllis Deeder. He then demonstrates the sheer power he possesses as well as his ability to fly. Phyllis attempts to seduce her roommate, whom she calls 'Sam', so that they may try out his new body which is incredibly attractive to females. Mighty Man rejects the notion as he is still unsure about his new form and wishes to explore it a bit more before trying out anything that may endanger someone he cares about.
