Synopsis:
Miranda, now fully on the run from Ferran, needs Keli's help navigating the huge Needle that serves as the seat of power for the Empire. Fortunately, for the fugitive Empress, only a very small part of the Needle has been definitively mapped.

Keli offers the comparative safety of a forest on the Needle's surface. Waiting there is Keli's brother, Mack Gideon. Somewhat of a rogue element himself, Mack explains that Miranda's importance is a little greater than that of a simple heir to the throne. Her genetic structure itself is unique. Only it will open up a vast library, one that contains all the secrets of the universe. Combined with her title, this knowledge will make Ferran all but invincible.

Ferran is thus playing for keeps. He's sent out a hunter droid and a pair of bounty hunters in search of the Empress. She narrowly destroys the droid, but cannot stop the two trackers from taking out Mack, leaving her apparently at their mercy.

Notes:
The bulk of the story is in black and white, with a full-color centerfold, done in this issue by Jon Taylor. He therefore receives credit as colorist for this issue.
