Jack goes to see The Mist under the guise of his son, Kyle, in order to return the medal that he found in Wesley Dodds' home. He hopes to prove to Nash that they're not the same. After returning the medal and hearing the Mist's story, he's brought up to speed about Merritt and how Shade and Matt O'Dare are trapped within the poster. Their investigation is intercut with entries from Shade's journal about Merritt. Finally, they get a lead, Charity phones Jack saying that he will kill her in the future.
