It's time for Number One to make some career choices. She's offered command of the U.S.S. Nelson, but like seemingly every other first officer onboard a ship named Enterprise she refuses her own command. While she's making her decision, Colt and Tyler have found a mysterious object while on shore leave at Starbase 45. With it they can apparently see into the future.

On another part of the station, Pike receives sealed orders from his boss, Robert April, compelling him to take a top secret away mission.

Still studying the artifact, Yeoman Colt is thrown into the future.

The cover is a deliberate homage to Byrne's cover for Uncanny X-Men #138.
