Letters Column: Wise Quacks
Synopsis:
None entered.
Reprinted/Collected in: Essential Howard the Duck (2002) TPB vol. 01 Howard The Duck Omnibus (2008) HC
Notes:
Wise Quacks features letters addressing HTD #10 and #12 from JOHN KOZAK (Winnipeg, Manitoba), ROGER SCHOOLCRAFT (Follansbee, WV), ADAM CASTRO (No Address), and FRANK WATSON (Dexter, MO). The editorial comment at the column's close promotes HTD ANNUAL #1 and HTD #15, which issue "introduces a 'villain' we think may rival Dr. Doom--or even the Kidney Lady--as one of Marvel's more memorable baddies."
The Bullpen Bulletins page promotes STAR WARS #1 with a cover reproduction. The film had not been released at this time, so it is fun to read the Bulletin writer (Scott Edelman?) earnestly attempting to sell readers on the film and comic book. Meanwhile, in his Soapbox, Stan promotes the KISS Magazine.
Opposite the Bullpen Bulletins is the Hostess Twinkies ad "Spider-Man and Madam Web!"
Fun 1977-era ads include a full-pager for Marvel merchandise ranging from puzzle books to patches. Opposite that is another full-page ad for Marx Toys' Sky Heroes, gliders with superheroes on them. Other ads include half-pagers for FOOM, CRAZY, and Marvel's line of black-and-white magazines. The back cover boasts the JACK DAVIS comic-strip ad for Spalding basketballs titled "Street Ball with Rick Barry and Dr. J!"
