Swamp Thing responds to a summons for the god Xipe-Totec by am Aztec descendant named Carlos who skins a Sunderland field rep and wears his skin as part of the ritual.

Sunderland gave the village chemicals that caused the animals and children to mutate after two years of bounty.

When Sunderland sends forces against the village, Swamp Thing nearly becomes drunk with power from soil filled with his dead believers, but instead sends the paperwork on "Project: Cornucopia" to Clark Kent at the Daily Planet, instead.
