Letters Column: Avengers Assemble!
An industrial saboteur is betrayed by his employer, who sets his bomb to go off early, and he is caught in a chemical explosion. The Beast sees the Human Torch fail to put out the fire on TV, and deduces that the fire is alive. He convinces the other Avengers to go to the fire. Once there, Wonder Man, Iron Man, and the Vision go in to investigate. Wonder Man is forced to leave. The other Avengers eventually put on heavy duty asbestos suits and go in to investigate. The see the Vision, who tell them that Iron Man's circuits froze him in a block of ice as a defense mechanism. He tells them the creator of the fire is nearby. They then go on to find the villain. Once they find him, he calls himself Pyron, and tells how he was hired to blow up a chemical plant and was betrayed by his employers, and that he wants revenge against them by destroying their company. The Avengers attack him, but are overwhelmed by his heat generating ability. Eventually, the Wasp, who had stayed behind because the asbestos suit would not have shrunk with her, puts one on and goes in a foam capsule. She has to shrink to wasp size, go out of her suit, and go explode the capsule in Pyron's face. She succeeds, though is nearly overcome by the heat in the process. Pyron is captured, and will testify against his employer, who is captured.
