An odd little annual, from a continuity standpoint. The bulk of the stories, including the comic strip, feature the Fourth Doctor. But the Fifth Doctor, at least according to the illustrations, appears in two of the prose stories. Yet his only companion was Adric. Since the televised Fifth Doctor never travelled with Adric alone, it's hard to see how these two stories can be canonical.

Equally, it's difficult to see how the rest of the stories are canonical, either, since, as is explained further in the notes to "Plague World", they feature the odd team-up of the Fourth Doctor, Adric, and K-9.

Finally, except for the cover and frontispiece, the Fourth Doctor is illustrated in a style inconsistent with any televised story that featured Adric.

This story is tricky in terms of continuity. By showing the Doctor, Adric and K-9, alone, traveling together—a trio that never existed on the television show—we have to do some mental gymnastics. Either this story takes place during the televised "E-Space trilogy" (and Romana is, for some reason, always inside the TARDIS) —or the story occurs in that barely nebulous area between "The Keeper of Traken" and "Logopolis". While those two stories do read like the first two parts of a trilogy, it is just possible to imagine that there is a gap of time between the two. This would then allow us to assume that the K-9 featured here is the Mark III that the Doctor eventually gives Sarah Jane in "A Girl's Best Friend", the pilot to K-9 and Company.
