Synopsis: After speaking with a PI about a missing child case, Batman investigated the seven-year-old crime. He was able to crack the case - a woman abducted the child after her own son died. The kidnap victim was a dead-ringer for her deceased son.
Synopsis: Police responded to a call reporting Batman's death. He was rushed to a hospital, but could not be saved. Someone at the hospital's morgue leaked the story to the press. It made front page news the next day and reached Arkham, Dick, and Alfred. Gordon paid last respects to his fallen friend. A second Batman corpse was found.
Synopsis: A third and forth Batman killing was discovered. All four were experts in their fields: a race car driver, a demolitionist, a chemist, and a body builder. A fifth turned up, a gymnast. Gordon investigated by visiting a cross-bow expert (a cross-bow had killed the gymnast) who'd recently arrived in Gotham. He greeted Gordon in a Batman costume and told him that Bruce Wayne had sent it to him for a masquerade. The man died while Gordon was there. The Commissioner went to see Wayne. While talking to Wayne, Alfred brought in a package that had arrived - a Batman costume laced with acid.
Synopsis: While under police protection, Bruce confided to Alfred that all the dead men had been his trainers in route to becoming the Batman. Alfred ran a diversion on the cops while Bruce headed down to the cave. Another Batman was found. The real Batman deduced the killer and took him down before he could strike again - he was one of the alleged dead trying to break ties from Batman before one of his foes killed him.
Synopsis: Batman was unable to stop the forth hit on a mob boss in as many weeks. After years in prison, Anthony Zucco (who killed the Flying Graysons) was up for parole; Alfred spoke at the hearing. Dick returned to Wayne Manor at Alfred's request to speak to Bruce. Batman attempted to stop the fifth mob killing and was in the boss's house when it was bombed.
Synopsis: Nightwing saved Batman from the rubble after the bombing. Batman left his former partner in a huff. Alfred, after returning home from the parole hearing, thought back on when Bruce took in "Master Richard." Nightwing came back to the manor looking for Batman. He and Alfred expressed their concerns about Bruce since Jason's death.
Synopsis: Nightwing again set out to find Batman. From a group of crime bosses, Batman learned of Zucco's book - a ledger he'd kept about every crime and every criminal for the past 30 years. Alfred told Dick Zucco was getting out. He went to the release and found Batman watching. They witnessed as he was gunned down while leaving the prison.
Synopsis: Back in the cave, Batman refused to let Nightwing help him and vowed never to have a partner again. All the crime families began to aggressively search out Zucco's book. Batman threatened them to leave it alone. The parole board member who'd voted Zucco out also searched for it. Nightwing went to the orphanage where he and Zucco had both spent time and found the ledger. He was attacked by Taft, the parole board member. The book was lost in their struggle. Dick visited his parents' gravesite.
Synopsis: Alfred took Tim back to his boarding school; Bruce told him that Alfred would be continuing his training on weekends. Bruce met up with Lucious Fox and Dr. Jeffrey Fraser. Wayne hoped that Fraser could help bring some positive publicity to Wayne Tech in lieu of the recent allegations of him being a traitor. Batman stopped one of a series of highly skilled robberies, but the leader of the group burst into flames when he said his boss's name - Crimesmith.
Synopsis: Wayne and Fox met again with Fraser. Bruce let Tim sit in with him in the cave while he did some evidence checking. With the results, Bruce realized that Fraser was the Crimesmith. He went after the scientist, but Fraser's partner double-crossed and killed him.
