Synopsis:
On the roof of the Museum of Pagan Antiquities, X-Force's CABLE and Shadow Rider BOOT clash, each thinking the other an agent of MyS-TECH. Both characters investigate the strange energy readings emanating from MyS-TECH Central - signals that are stranger than usual thanks to Porlock's experiments on a young man, Matt Ryan.
Elsewhere, in a brief cameo, we see Vorin employing what could be loosely described as his "Death Sense" in an attempt to recruit the Hulk's occasional partner, Rick Jones, to the Shadow Riders when Death's Head mistakenly attempts to kill him - an interlude left hanging for another day when the Hulk arrives and it is clear Rick is not to die this day.
As Boot and Cable renew their struggle on MyS-TECH Central roof (after a disconcerting trip to Cable's Grymalkin base* and Boot recognises it as the place where he 'died' before becoming a Shadow Rider, prompting Cable's further concern as to who he is) a MyS-TECH security guard, Grunt, is cut down by gunfire. Vorin recruits him instead, filling his mind with images of the horrors of what MyS-TECH and other evils are capable of. And so joining Stranger, Roadie, Boot and the odd little alien, Goodfellow, Grunt becomes the latest Shadow Riders recruit.
Back up story: Boot's recruitment to the Shadow Riders is revealed as an unexpected survivor of a Warheads jump to Grymalkin, wiped out by Cable and his robots; Vorin grabs him and destroys the Warheads jump point and we see Che, that Warheads Troop leader arrive back on Earth via Cable's 'bodyslide' technology - Cable with him with a gun to the Warheads head...
Notes:
* In using Cable's Bodyslide to access Grymalkin, the original script made it clear that Ryan's energy readings disrupted other energy fields - enabling Boot to jump with Cable to the X-Force leader's base where usually he could not.
