Synopsis: A new family has moved next door to the Kents. Professor Lewis Lang and his wife are archaeologists, though, and are no sooner moved in than they have to leave town for an extended dig. The professor asks Pa Kent if their daughter, Lana, can stay at the farm for the summer. Ma and Pa quickly agree, much to Clark's chagrin.
After the Langs leave town, an outbreak of attacks on Smallville's public buildings commences. Lana begins to investigate—while at the same time trying to uncover Superboy's secret identiy.
Superboy manages to uncover the source of the attacks as Ezra Keener, a local property developer. His scheme, replayed dozens of times in DC comics, was to drive the property values down so he could buy up the land underneath the destroyed buildings and turn a profit.
Lana's efforts to expose Superboy are meanwhile outwitted, but just as Clark begins to breathe easier, the Langs return only to announce that their work is going to continue taking them out of town. Lana's stay with the Kents will be indefinite. Clark's problems with Lana are just beginning . . .
Notes: The police chief and mayor of Smallville in this story are not the same ones that would later become somewhat of a fixture of Superboy stories.
