Story Arc(s):    Add/remove story arcs to this issue

This story is a fanciful take on Joshua Norton, a real-life man who, in 1859, declared himself Emperor Norton I of America. This issue summarizes his adventures from that point until his death. In this version of his story, he is set out on his path by Dream after Despair challenges him, backed by Desire and Despair.

The Sandman (1989) #31

The title of this story is based upon the title of the movie "Four Weddings and a Funeral", written by a friend of Neil Gaiman's around the time this issue was written, though the movie was not made until a few years later.
